There's also a fetishization of disabled women- I mentioned online that I was deaf, and some asshole was like "Cool, I always wanted to f*ck a deaf chick". So you can't win. There's a certain kind of creep that preys on us- they think, "Oh, she's disabled! Easy target!" This article was very good and thought provoking, and I related to a lot of it. Most guys don't look twice at a cripple, because we're viewed as damaged goods. I've never been cat-called. "Sexy" clothes usually take too much energy for me to put on (I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal), so I don't usually have to worry that men will take my clothing as an invitation." YES. at first i didn't think #yesallwomen applied to me because of this but the rest of your article is also SO SPOT ON and i never thought of it that way. i am one of the few that doesn't mind being helped without asking, but besides that, thank you so much for this eloquently stated article! i could never quite put it into words the way you so brilliantly did!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6495205444562241273.post-84135024983617061822014-05-29T12:43:44.249-04:002014-05-29T12:43:44.249-04:00I was assaulted by a man I knew - the maintenance ...I was assaulted by a man I knew - the maintenance guy in my apartment. He knew I lived on my own but always asked how my "mommy and daddy" were doing, and assumed incorrectly that my 3-year-old niece and five-year-old nephew were my brother and sister.

I can't say for sure that his sexual assault of me happened because I am disabled, but I definitely connected his infantilization of me with the disability, which made the sexual assault all the more sickening to me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
